ELSA House Training Week

EHTW 2010 Brussels, Belgium

Frequently asked questions

The ELSA House Training Week is an annual event hostel by ELSA Belgium which takes place in Brussels, Belgium.

The event aims at deepening the participants’ ELSA knowledge, improving their personal skills as well as knowledge about Brussels - the heart of Europe and the base of the headquarters of ELSA.

Every summer 50-60 ELSA members gather in Brussels. Throughout one intensive week the participants have the opportunity to get to know the association better and understand all the opportunities that their membership offers.

Furthermore the participants receive training in various soft skills such as presentation, negotiation, public speaking, team work, communication, project management, time management, etc.

The training sessions are delivered by trainers from the International Trainers’ Pool (ITP) , which consists of 35 former ELSA members from 17 countries who have chosen to base on the skills they learned in ELSA and their later professional life. You can read more about ITP here and see a list of the trainers currently in the pool.

The program also includes visits to the European Institutions and to offices of international law Firms or companies in Brussels.

As always on international ELSA events there is an extensive social program aiming at learning about the participants’ different cultural backgrounds and thereby experience cultural diversity in its full extend.

ELSA: Did you know?

STEP
Student Trainee Exchange Programme (STEP) was originially named Short-Term Exchange Programme and developed through the "Canadian Training Programme". At the ICM in October 1985 the abbreviation STEP was born.
Vision
On October 12th, 1992, ELSA's philosophy statement was adopted in Brussels. The vision "A just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity" has played a major role in all of ELSA's activities ever since.
Internet
Internet appeared in the ELSA world in 1992/93 and greatly enhanced the communication possibilities. Email quickly became the communication tool within ELSA, and already for the first GLSE, all the information was collected exclusively via email.
